Monty Don left fans feeling emotional as he shared a sweet post about his beloved dog. As well as showing off different aspects of his garden, the presenter also issues regular updates on his pet pooches; Ned and Patti.

The Gardeners' World star also had a labrador called Nell, who sadly died last year. Taking to Instagram on Monday (July 29), Monty shared an image of Ned running through a wildflower meadow.

The 69-year-old received an influx of messages from his followers who adored the snap of the golden retriever. One wrote: "We need more wildflower meadows & Ned too, little Patti would be lost in there, all beautiful to see."

"Just living his best life," declared a second. Others branded the picture "gorgeous", while another added: "He's so handsome and happy."

Monty, who welcomed the golden retriever into his family in 2022, celebrated Ned's birthday earlier this month. The horticulturist constantly surrounds himself with canines and proudly proclaims his adoration for dogs on his website.

He writes: "I have lived with dogs all my life and so it is absolutely natural to me that wherever I am in the garden I should be accompanied by a dog or two. It is their garden as much as mine or any other members of the family.

"Something that I take for granted is that, by and large, they do absolutely no damage and respect the garden completely. They (rarely) dig holes or crash through the flower beds. They do treat the long paths as bowling alleys down which they career in chase of the ball that we are obliged to throw, but it is harmless enough."

Last month, Monty announced that he will be going on tour later this year.

"In November I shall be doing a tour, visiting towns and cities right across the UK, and in Ireland," he said in a video on Instagram. "So join me then. I very much hope to see you there."

Monty will be travelling all around the UK, appearing in venues such as the De Montfort Hall in Leicester to Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Scotland. Unfortunately for fans, a number of the locations are already sold out.

However, others are in luck as Monty announced he has added two more dates to the list. He will now be in Salford Quays twice, hosting two shows from The Lowry across the day on November 10.
