Can I power the Spirit 1.0 Plus series with an external battery?

Yes, and anexternal battery power cableis required.

Officially, we recommend the ePropulsion 48V E-Series battery to extend the range. We also recommend a cowling for looking good when you remove the original Spirit battery.

How to store the Spirit battery during the long term?

Store the battery in the dry environment and keep the battery charge level at 60% around, and charge the battery every 3 months.

Will the motor turn off automatically if I forget to power off after use?

Yes, Spirit 1.0 Evo Remote will switch off after 30 mins without operation.

Can I use E40 to power Navy 3.0 Evo or E80 to power Navy 6.0 Evo?

  • Yes, but parallel connection is required. To power one Navy 3.0 Evo with E40, you need two E40 batteries in parallel. To power one Navy 6.0 Evo with E80, you need two E80 batteries in parallel.

Can I use third-party batteries to power Navy 3.0 / 6.0 Evo?

  • First, our original E-Series battery has the best unit price on the market, as low as $0.46 per WattHour.
  • Second, the E-Series battery weighs 70% less than the lead-acid battery with equivalent usable capacity, and costs 50% in five-year use.
  • Third, because of incompatible communication protocol, when powered by third-party batteries, the ePropulsion motor cannot access real-time battery status and apply the best operation strategy.
  • Despite all these, if you still prefer third party lithium or lead-acid batteries. The nominal battery voltage should be 48V. The continuous discharge current should be over 62.5A for Navy 3.0 Evo and 125A for Navy 6.0 Evo.

Do I need to charge the Evo top mount control?

The Evo top mount control has a built-in battery and it can be self-powered by its solar panel. When you use it with wireless connection and the control is at low battery level, you could charge the Evo top mount control with a communication cable.

Can I use E40 to power Pod Drive 3.0 Evo or E80 to power Pod Drive 6.0 Evo?

  • Yes, but parallel connection is required. To power one Pod Drive 3.0 Evo with E40, you need two E40 batteries in parallel. To power one Pod Drive 6.0 Evo with E80, you need two E80 batteries in parallel.

Can I use third-party batteries to power Pod Drive 1.0 / 3.0 / 6.0 Evo?

  • First, our original E-Series battery has the best unit price on the market, as low as $0.46 per WattHour.

Can Pod Drive motor work for saltwater use?

Why choose an E-Series battery over a 3rd-party option?

ePropulsion batteries are designed for maximum efficiency, performance and safety. Using 3rd-party batteries does not allow for the use of our communication cable which brings data accuracy to the gauge and ensures useful operating strategy for safety and performance.

Can I use the third-party chargers for E-Series Battery?

No. Third-party chargers are not allowed for warranty reasons. Consult with your dealer or ePropulsion on Facebook before you use a 3rd-party charger.

Can I connect different E-Series battery sizes in parallel?

No. For parallel connection, E40, E80 and E175 can only be connected to the same model of the same age because they have different Battery Management Systems and different cell configurations.

What is the communication terminator used for?

It improves the signal quality. Without the communication terminator, E-Series batteries won’t work in a parallel connection. Make sure you purchase this tool before a parallel connection.

How do I turn on and turn off the E-Series batteries in parallel connection?

Always power the master battery on/off first, not the secondary battery. If the secondary battery is powered on/off before the master battery damage or reduced usable capacity may occur.

Q: How to charge the households/appliance with E-Series Battery?

A: The E-Series Battery is DC-direct current. If the device that need to be charged is also DC, users only need to apply a DC-DC converter that convert 48V to the required voltage.

Q: What is hydrogeneration?

A: The hydrogeneration’s mechanism is very similar to hydropower. When sailing, the force of water can be imposed on the propeller rotation, and then leads to the motor running. Therefore, the battery would be charged, and the power would be stored.

Q: Under what condition the hydrogeneration feature can be activated?

A: The triggering of the hydrogeneration function requires the following conditions:

  • Users need to use ePropulsion Evo series motors and ePropulsion battery, applying with the communication cable. ePropulsion’s folding propeller does not apply to this feature.
  • Place the Evo control in a neutral position, and turn on the hydrogeneration function in the control setting. (On by default)
  • The motor remains in a power-on state.
  • ePropulsion battery power level is below 90%
  • When sailing to the speed between 4-19 knots, the motor would be able to generate the electricity, and the power can be stored. After 19 knots, the hydrogeneration function would automatically turn off.

Q: Can I charge the Spirit Plus battery with a solar panel while still using it?

A: Yes, you can charge the Spirit Battery and Spirit Plus Battery while using it.

Q: Can I use 3rd party solar panel to charge the Spirit battery? What kind of specs should I look into?

A: Yes, you can use the 3rd party solar panel but you would still need to use eProprolsion solar charge controller. For the solar panel, the maximum operating current is 10A; the operating voltage should between 12V ~ 35V.

Note: Using 3rd party solar panels is not recommended for warranty reasons.

Q: Can I use ePropulsion solar panel or 3rd party solar panel to charge the E-Series battery?

A: The ePropulsion solar panel was designed for the Spirit batteries, it is only compatible with the Spirit 1.0 battery and Spirit Plus battery.

To charge the ePropulsion E-Series Battery with only 3rd party solar panels, users need to set the solar charger float voltage to 57.6V. Meanwhile, the solar charger maximum discharge current needs to be less than 20A/40A/75A for the E40/E80/E175 battery collectively. Otherwise, the E-Series Battery would not be charged.

Q: Are ePropulsion motors compatible with 3rd party batteries?
A: Yes, ePropulsion products can use the 3rd party compatible batteries, including the EFOY battery. It provides reliable onboard power supply for ePropulsion motors whenever needed and helps extend the runtime and range to allow you to have more fun on water.

Q: To charge the ePropulsion motor with a 3rd party battery, what specs are required? What else needs to know?

A: For the 3rd party batteries specs, the nominal battery rated voltage should be 48V, and the continuous discharge current should be over 62.5A (Navy 3.0 Evo and Pod Drive 3.0 Evo), and 125A (Navy 6.0 Evo and Pod Drive 6.0 Evo). To ensure at least one hour duration, the battery capacity should reach at least 3000Wh or 6000Wh.

When powered by 3rd party batteries, the ePropulsion motor cannot access the real-time battery status nor apply the best operation strategy.

If any malfunction occurred due to the 3rd party batteries, the warranty would not apply.

How far can you go with an electric boat motor? ›

As Evoy has done several deliveries to boats in different sizes, as we told you we often see a cruising range of around 25 nautical miles. However, if you want to cruise at lower speeds, you will benefit from the lower resistance, and you can cruise for 12 hours or 50 nautical miles at 5 knots.

How long will an electric outboard motor run? ›

80 minutes at slow speeds, 60 minutes at normal speed and 40 minutes at full throttle. Speed, distance and running time of Minn Kota outboards depends, as with other makes, on a number of factors.
