What happens if you don't answer the door for UPS? ›

Answer: If you're not home to sign for UPS, the driver will leave a notice of attempted delivery at your door. You can then either schedule a redelivery or pick up the package at a UPS location.

Fake tracking numbers.

Make sure you check every tracking number in a text on UPS.com/track. Links that aren't from “UPS.com.” Hackers will often use URLs that look legitimate and include the letters “ups” in them.

Can I leave a note for UPS if a signature is required? Yes, you can leave a note directing UPS to have the package signed by a neighbor or have it delivered to a different location. Otherwise, UPS Signature Required packages cannot be delivered unsigned.

Real UPS text messages sometimes include links, but they will always start with “https://www.ups.com/” in the URL. Scammers include links that may look genuine at a glance, and they may direct you to a website that looks convincingly like a real UPS page.

A UPS tracking number, for domestic packages within the United States, will usually start with "1Z" followed by a 6 character shipper number (numbers and letters), a 2 digit service level indicator, and finally 8 digits identifying the package (the last digit being a check digit), for a total of 18 characters.

Other scammers will also send text messages to your phone, but you should be aware that UPS, FedEx and the United States Postal Service will not send you text messages asking for information, deputies added.

UPS has a very low package loss rate, with less than 1% of packages being lost or damaged in transit. However, this can still result in a significant number of lost packages due to the high volume of packages that UPS handles on a daily basis.

As UPS package recipients, customers have the right to receive their package in a timely and secure manner. If a package was delivered to the wrong address or experienced any issues during the delivery process, they may be eligible for compensation or a refund depending on UPS' policies.

If you miss the UPS signature required delivery, UPS will make three attempts to deliver the package. After the third attempt, the package will be returned to the sender.
